I first met Ulises Torrentera, the man who literally wrote the book[s] on Mezcal, a few years back. I had our mezcal taster Ed Draves in tow and we were headed to Ulises’ Mezcaleria, In Situ, on Calle Morelos in the heart of Oaxaca City. We had just finished up a tour and tasting at Wahaka Mezcal in San Dionesio and our friend Paco Garcia thought we should finish the day with Ulises.
Over the years, I’ve had a chance to visit many times with Ulises, a man who is always gracious and ready to share about mezcal. Let me put it like this… there is simply no other person who knows more about mezcal than Ulises, or is more approachable.
Today is his birthday.
And so Ulises, we celebrate you today, with a toast… of mezcal of course!
