You Can Help Bring Clean Drinking Water to Oaxaca…

***Update***Update***Update***Update***

This morning we raised our goal to $13,000.00 so we could help out the town where Bricia Lopez and her family, of Guelaguetza Restaurant in Los Angeles, are working. The name of that area is Asunción Ixtaltepec

If you love Mexico, you know Oaxaca and Chiapas have been buried under tons of rubble since last weeks massive 8.1 earthquake. There are areas that desperately need our help.

The non profit I head up has identified three cities where we can make a real difference and provide lasting help in Oaxaca. They are San Mateo del Mar, Chicapa de Castro and Reforma de Pineda, some of the hardest hit areas outside of Juchitán.

One of the biggest needs is water. Clean, safe drinking water.

We have agreed to set up a village water purification system in each of these areas capable of delivering 1000 gallons, or almost 4000 liters of clean purified water everyday. Additionally, we are providing up to 100 portable individual water filters in each village for people who live too far from the larger system we are installing.

The total cost of these filters is right around $10,500.00.

It is not something we have, but we can raise that money. Apart from the administration costs from either our Go Fund Me page, or our PayPal portal, everything we raise from individuals is going directly to filters. Our transportation costs and all costs related to getting your help to Oaxaca will be paid by my non profit, Adventures in Life.

I’ve reached out to friends across both the US and Mexico and I am honored to count among our supporters the following corporate sponsors the following…

Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill in Chicago

Iliana de la Vega of El Naranjo in Austin

Nick Zukin of Mi Hero Mole in Portland

Alberto Morales of Wahaka Mezcal

Cecilia Murrieta of Mezcal La Niña del Mezcal

Mezcales Leyenda

W. Scott Koenig, El Gringo in Mexico

WanderLust Vintage Trailers

Mission Focused Humanitarian Photographers

Each village water system costs $1500.00. One hundred individual water filters cost $2000.00. $100.00 will buy 4 filters.

Today, I am asking you to join our team. You’re reading this blog because you love Mexico. Right now, Mexico, specifically Oaxaca, needs your love more than ever.

You can give electronically through my non profit here. That gives us the best bang for your buck.

Or, if you prefer, you can use our Go Fund Me page.

Either way is fine… the important thing is to give and help us in our effort to be fresh glass of water in our little rinconcito of Oaxaca.

Finally, please tweet or drop a note to our corporate sponsors and thank them for helping us and the people of Oaxaca.
