Years ago there was a great Oaxacan songwriter named Álvaro Carillo. Chances are you’ve never heard of him, but if you know Mexican culture, you know his music.
Perhaps his most famous song is Sabor a Mí, sung by people and trios all over the world.
Here’s a cover of that legendary ballad done by the up and coming Columbiana, Kali Uchis. I discovered it, and her, on the wonderfully eclectic NPR music show, Alt.latino.
I can just imagine listening to her in a club with a cigar and a nice smoky mezcal.
